What is Fat Transfer for Breasts and Buttocks?
Fat transfer is a cosmetic surgery technique that can be used to add extra volume and shape to the breasts and buttocks using the patient’s own body fat. This way, patients can eliminate fat from their abdomens, backs, thighs, or arms, while using that fat to accentuate their breasts and buttocks. The full results of this procedure can be seen in four to six months after treatment. Generally, these results last for the rest of the patient’s life.
How Does it Work?
Before the procedure begins, a local anesthesia is administered to the treatment area. During the fat extraction process, fat is removed from an area of the body of the patient’s choosing. This can include the legs, midsection, arms, neck, or anywhere else with excess fat. Once this fat has been removed, it is carefully purified and cleansed so that it has a smooth, even consistency. After the fat is adequately prepared, it is reinserted back into the body either in the breasts, buttocks, or both.
What are the Benefits of this Treatment?
Fat transfer is an excellent treatment option for patients that feel hesitant about undergoing a breast or buttocks augmentation procedure that uses artificial implants. In addition to addressing patient’s reservations about plastic surgery, fat transfer procedures are often safer and more effective because the body is less likely to reject its own fat than a foreign substance. This smooth integration into the body’s pre-existing tissues also means that the results of treatment are able to last for years after a procedure, often significantly longer than other methods. Because fat, a substance already present in the breasts and buttocks, is used to augment them, the results of this procedure are often more natural-looking than other alternatives.
